Success -32 year old Wacu Mureithi dared to leave her well-paying job in Nairobi to start her own venture even before she had any idea which one.
Unlike other businessmen who first identified their new landing spot before resigning, Wacu’s case was bold and different.
“I left a four-year-old, well-paying job without a fall-back plan. I did not have a side hustle, a secondary job, or even a business idea that I quit employment to pursue,” said Wacu.
She disclosed how before venturing into business, she was a top notch employee at an IT firm DataposIT located at Westlands Nairobi
“I was getting a monthly salary of Sh. 100,000. On top of this salary, I also earned commissions,” she added.
But despite that amount of income very month, she still left for something she had no idea of. This happened in 2016. She recounts how she was well-paid and enjoyed life with a big spoon but still had an urge for something new.
“I started making changes and adjustments in my personal life in order to make the money I had hived off last as long as possible. For example, I had to forgo the expensive beauty products I had gotten accustomed to,” Ms Wacu recounted.
Having the deep dire to run her own business from scratch, the lady tried to get tons of information on Youtube, registered, a business on beauty products and everything started falling into place.
“I began making my own beauty products using online tutorials. They turned out fantastic. They became a hobby,” she noted.
The entreprenure revealed having only a capital of sh 300,000 after saving for nine months. This was so little to start a manufacturing business but because that is what she had saved throughout her earning life, she had to make good use of it . She had also just graduated with her Masters.
Having a picture in her mind of what she wanted at the end of the day, she decided to run her Mosara Kenya(hair products) business on social media. She signed up for an account on Jumia –one of the most sought after local e-commerce platforms.
“I have been selling on Jumia for the past eighteen months. My milestone came during last year’s Black Friday online event during which my sales increased by 100 per cent,” revealed Wacu.
In her own words, it wasn’t an overnight success, she had to remain consistent for six month when she finally made her first sale on Jumia.
Today she is now a success story in beauty business.
