Gas Investment –Tanzanian billionaire, Rostam Aziz, is expanding his LPG business to the neighbouring Kenyan market.
President William Ruto on Friday, February 24, unveiled the new LPG multi-million plant in Mombasa owned by Taifa Gas, one of the several companies owned by billionaire Aziz.
“We are keen on increasing the per capita consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at the household level by implementing incentives that promote its use,” Ruto said.
These changes are meant to disrupt the LPG space, with consumers and analysts hoping the increased competition could, as usual, bring down cooking gas prices which have hit the roof.
Millions of Kenyans use LPG for cooking and commercial purposes, but sadly, prices are not regulated by the Energy and Petroleum Authority EPRA, leaving consumers vulnerable to rogue profiteers.
Taifa Gas is the largest LPG supplier in Tanzania with at least 35 plants and storage facilities spread across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
