Business–Wachira Wines was started by a Kenyan born Chris Wachira who started the venture in 2017.
The thriving CEO of the wines manufacturing business was born and raised in Kenya, went to school in the US in 1990s where she pursued a nursing course, Masters Degree in public policy and later managed to acquire a Doctorate Degree.
She describes her entry into the winery business in 2017 as not only tough but challenging because she was in the new setting abroad where she new just a handful of persons.
But five years later, she is reveling in a season of full-circle abundance. The company now crafts six “Californian wine brands with a Kenyan accent” including Cabernets, Zinfandels, Muscat and Chardonnay, consumed in the US, Japan, Canada and many more parts of the world.
She recently came home in Kenya to promote the brands which she wants to find some distributorship locally with a plan to employ as many Kenyans as possible.
“My drive was as simple and as selfish as wanting to make a wine that would complement my mother’s dishes. I could not find a wine that would go well with the Kenyan dishes she made,” She stated.
In her latest interview, she claimed that every investment she has made in her life has been driven by the need to fill a gap in the wine industry and the desire to highlight the importance of black women in wine business.
She has since managed to employ hundreds of people both whites and blacks in America and around the world.
