Firms -Bertha Mvati quickly rose from a mere intern to a senior manager of an established company despite having been an average student in class.
Her inspirational story as was narrated by a local channel Saturday Magazine depicted a lady who is not only hardworking but also a focused type who saw skies as no limit.
At only 33 years of age, Mvati could not believe that she had become the managing director of a company she joined as a mere intern in 2009. Vehicle and Equipment Leasing Company VAELC Kenya is a motor dealership firm based in Nairobi.
“Recently, when I was named the Managing Director of Vehicle and Equipment Leasing Limited (VAELL) Kenya in March this year, all I could think of was my long and tedious journey towards heading the largest leasing firm in East and Central Africa,” she was quoted.
She told the publication how she doubted self but kept moving on with strong faith that, one day, she will emerge a success in her career.
“Growing up, ours was pretty much an average family. My mother, who hails from Tanzania, was a Kiswahili teacher at State House Girls High School, while my father, a Kenyan, owned a small business.
“My parents made sure we were comfortable. In as much as they had their own struggles, they didn’t want their children to know,” she recounted during her interview.
Her appointment at VAELL saw her reminisce her not so good past which she anyway described as an anchor to her future.
According to the manager, her current corporate position has, however, not stopped her from listening and engaging her juniors both in her company and outside, having come from the same background.
Mvati took her interview opportunity to also thank her mother and father for being there for her and her siblings upto their maturity.
“We were fortunate that our parents ensured we had good education. My mother is hardworking and diligent; a value she has instilled in all of us.
“Seeing how hard my parents worked, I was brought up only knowing that hard work pays. That fanned my zeal to work hard,” added Ms Mvati.
Her focus is to become a good example both for her siblings as well as for her colleagues she has worked with and who made her journey to stardom a possibility.
