Election –Tycoon Ronald Karauri of Sportpesa gambling firm has won Kasarani Parliamentary seat after he ditched Jubilee Party in a bungled nomination exercise that saw him severe ways with the president’s party.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC report of Wednesday August 10 indicated that Mr Karauri won with 32,315 votes against Mercy Gakuya of Jubilee ruling party who got 24,967 votes.
The leading gambler lost in primaries under Jubilee ticket prompting him to switch to independent candidate.
In several interviews, the youthful and industrious Karauri indicated that bad laws had affected most betting firms in the country and, in particular, his own firm and therefore his joining politics would see him push for fair laws to safeguard the industry.
In his position as an MP, he will now be able to introduce amendments as well as push fellow MPs in protecting his business empire.
