News -Deputy President William Ruto has finally unveiled his running mate ahead of the August 9 general elections.
The announcement made on Sunday May 15 had on Saturday delayed after parties within the coalition could not agree on the final name.
It was not easy to choose between Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki.
There was witnessed a daylong standstill at the DP’s Karen home that ran into the late night without signs of any white smoke coming out.
At some point, during the Saturday impasse, Kiambu gubernatorial candidate William Kabogo who shortly came out of the gate for a brief break could be captured telling members of the press that several meetings were ongoing inside the compound.
It was not until around 1AM that UDA Party spokesman Hussein Mohamed came carrying his laptop to inform members of the press that the naming exercise will officially be taking place on Sunday May 15 by 11AM.
“The running mate issue was also extensively discussed. We are happy to announce that we have a decision as Kenya Kwanza. A decision has been reached and will be officially communicated to you on Sunday,” Hussein announced.
According to the IEBC, deadline for naming running mates is tomorrow Monday May 16; a day that Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance will also be naming their running mate.
