Business -Starting a business is one thing, and running one is another. Many would want to have their own businesses but, unfortunately, few can sustain one past six months.
Running a business is no different from raising a family. In heading a family, one has to be patient, respectful and ethical. Lack of any may lead to failure or, worse, separation between couples.
In Business just like it is in a family environment, one is required to be a prepared communicator. Being prepared simply means being organized – what Aristotle referred to as logo or logic. Couples in a room have to be organized to be able to run a viable family together. In business, same principles are applied. Good communication an imperative facet in running a successful business venture.
As the owner or a manager of any enterprise, it is expected that you learn how to communicate well. Have respect when talking to your juniors. Golden rule is, practice ethics or ethos as Aristotle puts it – treating your workers the same way you would expect of them. Remember, you are their role model apart from just being their employer. And who said employers are prison officers?
Lastly, an ethical person will always demonstrate high level of egalitarianism. This is when you have to believe that everybody is equal before the eyes of God. Treat people equally and they will not mess your shop. By treating everyone equally, it makes your work even easier. They will do a lot of work which you may have used a lot of resources to employ more staff. This is because of the fact that they are enjoying the business environment. For example, when you treat everybody equal, it will be easier for them to correct and check on each other even in your absence.
What this therefore means is that you may not require to mount CCTV surveillance cameras or extra guarding services to safeguard your business environment. Your workers become your business gatekeepers.
