Salaries -Radio Maisha staff have announced a boycott following a series of unpaid salaries amounting into millions.
The Standard Media Group radio department which comprises Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Berur FM and Vybes Radio held a staff meeting and, together, agreed that starting early next month, they will down their tools by going off air until their dues are settled.
All the radio units at the media house, on Friday June 28, came together in agreement saying they are forced to manage their lives on loans and little savings after their employer started defaulting on their monthly salaries.
Among the radio units that the staff are planning to go off air include Radio Maisha, Spice FM, Berur FM and Vybes Radio.
The arrears of unpaid salaries stretch from the month of June to August 2023 and February to June 2024 with no signs of payment soon.
“The matter of unpaid regular salary and mounting arrears as you’re aware is one of urgency. As a department – we need to have this matter addressed,” demanded the radio team.
In a statement issued during their sitting, the journalists claimed that they have been receiving salaries in inconsistent payments making their lives hard.
