Payments –Going forward, parents and guardians will be required to make school fees payments through the eCitizen digital platform.
The new directive was issued on Friday February 2 by the Ministry of Education which highlighted the necessity of such payments going through the newly-introduced government Paybill Number 222222.
Government has been moving with speed to consolidate all its payment on one avenue – the eCitizen – with one Pyabill Number. This directive was first announced by President William Ruto last years to reduce theft of public money.
“As part of compliance with the requirements it is directed that parents/guardians make fee payments for their learners in your institutions through this platform,” latest Ministry’s circular detailed.
“This will affect only national schools,” an insider shared.
The new directive will be assessed and, if found efficient, then other schools will also be directed to follow suit.
A circular doing rounds on major social media platforms indicates that Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has already instructed the schools to provide the details of the institution’s bank account to facilitate what he termed as ‘the on-boarding process’.
“The directorate of e-Citizen in partnership with the Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA), Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy and the National Treasury have been coordinating the onboarding of all government services onto the eCitizen platform to enhance service delivery,” the circular reads in part.
All heads of schools are, therefore, advised to provide their banking details to the office of the Director General, State Department for Basic Education before February 6, 2024.
