Salaries –County Assembly Speakers across the country will start receiving an increased salary of sh 6o1,674 in the new financial year 2023/2024.
In the leaks which parts of media outlets have in their possesion, County Assembly speakers have secured a sh 70,000 increment on their monthly pay.
This makes the speaker the major beneficiary in the new salary review by the Salaries and Remunerations Commission SRC.
Reached for a comment, an anonymous SRC official confirmed that the new salaries will be made public in a few weeks’ time.
County speaker pockets sh 525,525 every month in salaries and, with the new review, they will now be earning sh 562,312 in the next 2023/2024 financial year.
And as they enter the subsequent financial year 2024/2025, they will start earning a whopping sh 601,674
Other members of the County Assembly will see a slight increment in the new salaries plan.
For instance, MCAs will get a yearly sh 10,000 from the SRC’s proposal despite recent clamour to have their salaries increased by higher margins.
On April 15, outspoken Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai backed his counterparts saying ward representatives are the worst paid politicians in the country.
“Before the governors push for their wives to be paid and funded they must remember we are the worst paid.
“If you give me Sh109,000 per four months to pay office and staff how do I do that in Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Westlands, Kitisuru? How is that possible?” Alai posed.
Today, any Member of County Assembly earns sh 144,375 which will now be moving to sh 164,588 in the 2023/2024 and further increment in 2024/2025 financial years.
Unfortunately, as the County Assembly speaker earns over a half a million, his deputy who currently takes home less than sh 230,000 will move to sh 247,943 monthly salary.
The notes doing rounds in main media outlets further indicates that SRC will increase the salary of the majority and minority leaders from sh 216,563 to sh 231,722 in the 2023/2024 financial year. This will increase every other financial year.
