Nairobi County Government has announced that hawkers and traders should not go passed Moi Avenue.
Chief Officer Environment Nairobi City County, Geoffrey Mosira, while on his daily routine inspections around the city, announced that, to be able to restore order and cleanliness, traders will not be allowed in the CBD.
He added that only designated areas where the county announced will host the traders and that anyone found breaking the rules will be punished as per the city regulations.
“We must restore order in the city. If we allow hawkers to take over all the streets, the city will descend into chaos. Hawkers are not permitted beyond Moi Avenue.
“While we support their right to do business, they should not block shops or obstruct customers, especially when shop owners pay rent and taxes while hawkers pay nothing. Moreover, hawkers lack proper waste disposal, littering the entire city and turning it into an eyesore,” Mosira clarified.
He asked city dwellers and traders to consider personal responsibility that do not compromise the safety and standards of the capital city.
