Factory –Mumias Sugar Company in Kakamega will be employing over 5000 wotrkers as resumption of operations continues to pick pace under new investor, Sarbi Rai.
Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale, during his tour on Friday, November 11, confirmed that all was well at the Mumias-based miller.
“Today, I have spent three hours internalising the state of affairs at Mumias Sugar Company.
“I’m satisfied that the new investor, deserves support for his efforts in the revival of the company,” Dr. Khalwale announced.
The senator also confirmed that, upto now, the company had already managed to hire 800 new employees and the number may rise up to 5,000 going into the next year 2023.
Before putting it under receivership, Mumias had reported a net loss of sh 15.10 billion in the 2018/19 financial year against the previous year’s loss of sh 6.80 billion.
This was happening despite the company having received a whopping sh sh 3.70 billion in bailout from the national government.
