Taxes –Members of Parliament have today voted Yes to the Finance Bill 2024 beating those against it in a House sitting conducted today Thursday.
The Assembly voted yes for the Finance Bill, 2024, to proceed for Second Reading despite enraged Kenyans who had rejected the Bill accusing the State overtaxing them.
“Following extensive public participation, rigorous debate in the House and careful consideration of each clause of the Bill, the National Assembly has rendered its decision which is that the Bill should proceed for the next stage,” Duale confirmed in his capacity as a senior government official.
Duale seized the opportunity to congratulate the MPs who voted the Bill ‘Yes’ saying not only those from the government side supported it but also those in opposition.
“As former legislator I wish to congratulate the Members of the National Assembly from the entire political divide for guiding the country accordingly and we now look forward to the next stage being the Committee of the Whole House where amendments to the Bill will be considered,” added Duale in a statement today.
Majority Whip Silvamus Osoro who is also Mugirango East lawmaker in the Parliament congratulated his team for voting for the Bill which had received heavy resistance from Kenyans Gen Z.
“Congratulations, team, for voting for the Finance Bill,” he commented.
Following the news, hundreds of Kenyans on social media and on the streets who have been running a No campaign showed their dissatisfaction with the move by MPs to vote for the contentious Bill.
