Stories -It is now official that Bill Gates and wife Melinda Gates are ending their 27 year old marriage. This was made public through their official social media platforms last Monday May 3.
The two marriage partners on Monday filed an official divorce petition in King County Superior Courts in Washington DC State.
In the said legal papers before the Court, the moguls had amicably agreed on how they would be dividing their assets as they separate.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” The Wall Street Journal quoted a statement, which was signed by both people.
Gates and Melinda together have three children and run the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which concentrates a lot on philanthropy.
They will however, according to Bill Gates, remain committed to their mission as before; especially on their support to the community.
“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives,” the two said.
The 65 year old Microsoft founder Bill Gates announced last year that he was stepping down from boards of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and Microsoft – a software company he launched in 1975.
The inventor who built from scratch the dominant software firm managed to make his fortune from the project that is still hot cake across the globe. His net worth has since run into trillions.
As of now and according to FactSet, Mr. Gates personal stake in the multi-million venture Microsoft alone is approximately $26 billion.
