Tuesday, June 13, 2023 –Government has rewarded Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon with a house worth sh 6 million and cash prize of sh 5 million.
President William Ruto, on Tuesday June 13, in an event at Statehouse where he met the female athlete alongside others, made the offer as part of his government’s new strategy in rewarding local stars.
The offer, according toRuto, was made to Ms Kipyegon for her exceptional performances in the Florence Diamond League in Florence, Italy, and the Wanda Diamond League held in Paris, France.
“Our sportsmen and women brand Kenya globally. We will honour and reward them accordingly,” Dr. Ruto made the promise.
Dr. Ruto announced that Kipyegon would be granted a house worth sh 6 million, along with the cash prize in recognition of her record-breaking performances abroad.
“For every world record broken by a Kenyan, the government of Kenya is going to award Ksh5 million,” Ruto stated during the State Reception for Faith Kipyegon and Ferdinand Omanayla
“She has won and broken two world records in 1,500 meters and 5,000 metres. The government of Kenya is going to award her Ksh5 million for one record and we are going to give her a house worth Ksh6 million,” Ruto said.
Kipyegon’s new 3-bedroomed house is located in Parklands Nairobi and was built under the Affordable Housing Program.
Fastest sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala was also gifted sh 2 million for 100 metres African Champion 2023 performance.
