Market -Kenyans should start manufacturing their own electronics from next year. Opposition leader Raila Odinga has promised.
Highlighting what his government will be doing once they get power, Mr. Odinga through his Sunday July 18 long statement noted that there is need to start manufacturing own electronics in the country. He also said the only way this could be reached is by taking youths for trainings in China and Europe.
“My dear Kenyans. When did you last see a product with a label MADE IN KENYA? I have some ideas on how we can have many MADE IN KENYA products in supermarket shelves and shops in a sustained manner that ensures home grown industrialization,” he wrote.
He argued that when Kenya starts to manufacture its own phones, computers and other electronics, a larger section of jobless youths will be absorbed in those industries within a very short time.
“Developed nations like Japan, Canada, Germany, Korea have taken their youths to this competition to showcase skills beginning with basics as technicians, tailors, cooks, hairdressers, artisans, craftsmen,” he said.
He added that this will create a more sustainable economy with local youths operating machines just like in China and other developed nations.
He faulted the past regimes for not addressing this angle of development saying their failure had negatively impacted on this nation.
