Win and Scholarship – Kelvin Kemboi, from Kapsabet High School, has won sh 3.5 million in secondary schools maths contest.
This is after the Nandi County-based institution played host to a mathematics contest on Saturday, May 20 that was open to over 4000 students from forms 1 to 4 across the country.
After marking the competitors’ papers, the examiners all came to the conclusion that the Form Four student, Kelvin Kemboi, was the best overall.
Following his resounding win, the student was awarded a whopping sh 3.5 million in scholarship, and he will have an opportunity to study at any school of his choice in Australia.
“It’s important to note that Kemboi won the same award in 2022 after beating all students while still in Form 3. We expect him to perform so well,” Mr Oliver Toroitich, his teacher, explained.
The competition was aimed at creating a learning avenue and to showcase skills that include confidence and critical thinking.
It had two categories – individual and team – In the individual category, students were given a set of problems to solve in a limited amount of time. Kemboi would beat the rest in this category.
It was followed by awards to the top three students in each category while, in the team category, students were divided into teams of four and given a set of problems to work on. The top three teams in each category were also awarded with prizes.
