Origination
- Build relationships with H2R stakeholders (business owners, borrowers, lenders, investors, and risk partners) to steer deals from identification to close, in line with H2R’s investment policy and impact mandate.
- Develop a pipeline, source, evaluate, and pre-screen transactions based on eligibility and ESG criteria.
- Foster strong networks and build relationships to generate new business opportunities.
- Deal Execution
- Conduct due diligence, prepare credit approval memos, and present transactions to the investment committee to secure approval.
- Negotiate legal documentation and participate in deal closing, overseeing transaction quality and outputs.
- Perform financial modeling, stress-testing, scenario analysis, and coordinate with SDI and HSES teams for assessments.
Portfolio Management
- Manage portfolio performance, ensure covenant compliance, and intervene where necessary to address core issues.
- Review amendments and waiver requests, provide updates to managers, and validate impact data collection.
- Incentivize borrowers to extend clean energy access and participate in portfolio reviews.
- Strategy Development
- Work closely with the Managing Director to develop and execute H2R’s strategy and business plan.
- Support fundraising, investor reporting, and strategic planning, including market positioning and relationships.
- Lead the investment team in understanding and delivering the investment strategy.
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead by example, fostering a culture of integrity, collaboration, and accountability within the team.
- Manage the Investment Team to ensure high-quality results, handle complex issues, and maintain H2R’s values.
- Effectively manage pressure situations and undertake additional duties as needed.
The desired candidate will have, but not be limited to:
- Master’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field.
- CFA/CPA qualification would be advantageous
- 12+ years of experience in venture debt or private credit funds, focusing on Off-Grid transactions (solar home systems and mini-grid financing) in emerging markets
- Experience in commercial and operational due diligence, with a background in financing SMEs, particularly in early-stage businesses across various functions.
- Strong experience in securitisation transactions, financial accounting, statement analysis, and financial modelling, including cashflow analysis.
- In-depth knowledge of transaction legal documentation and a proven track record of delivering client-focused services.
- Experience in line management and team leadership.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
- A well-developed network across financial intermediaries, impact investors, and stakeholders in Africa.
- Commitment to serving people in poverty, with a passion for frontier markets and delivering clean energy solutions.
- Self-starter, proactive, resilient, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
