Twitter –High profile Twitter accounts may start having a grey checkmark label. Twitter company has officially announced.
According to Director of product at Twitter, Esther Crawford, this new feature will be accorded to high-profile accounts for authenticity.
She went ahead to share a screenshot that showed Twitter’s official account having the grey tick label beneath the handle.
“A lot of folks have asked about how you’ll be able to distinguish between @TwitterBlue subscribers with blue checkmarks and accounts that are verified as official, which is why we’re introducing the “Official” label to select accounts when we launch,” Crawford noted.
This is a new twist of events at the Elon Musk-owned social media company that seeks to raise revenues for its sustainability.
Though the grey checkmark is free, it will only be available to government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures.
“Accounts that will receive it include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures,” Crawford explained.
In the screengrab Crawford shared, Twitter official account had both checkmarks – regular blue and the new grey – meaning that accounts can have both.
After acquiring the popular social media company two weeks ago, billionaire Elon Musk who also runs Space X and Tesla car manufacturing company in the US, announced that Twitter will be facing an overhaul in both its staff as well as verification processes.
Twitter boasts of over 450 million monthly active users as of 2022.
