Paid -Githu Muigai’s law firm, Mohamed Muigai LLP advocates, will be pocketing close to sh 567 million in legal fees from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.
The law firm which played part in the defending the IEBC during Raila’s presidential petition is reportedly preparing to pocket the lions share of the cash which IEBC is set to pay.
Muigai – former Attorney General – was the lead counsel for the IEBC and a report tabled in Parliament shows that the IEBC hired a total of 28 law firms for the presidential petition which they won.
Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga had challenged the presidential results at the Supreme Court.
The Martha Koome-led court later found the evidence tabled by the complainant as insufficient and went ahead to uphold President Ruto’s victory.
On the list of those to be paid are Senior Counsel Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed of the Abdikadir & Abdikadir Advocates which will pocket sh 26.7 million as an unnamed law firm gets sh 26.7 million with Senior Counsel Kamau Karori of IKM Advocates set to pocket sh 26.7 million.
The documents tabled in Parliament shows that IEBC owes sh 20.9 million each to the law firms of Murugu, Rigoro and Company Advocates, Garane and Somane Advocates, SM Kilonzo Associates, Mukele Moni and Company Advocates and Mutubwa Law.
Others are JK Kibicho and Company Advocates, Wekesa and Simiyu Advocates, Tiego and Company Advocates, G and A Advocates LLP and Manyonge Wanyama and Associates Advocates.
Moreover, several other law firms that will each be paid sh17.4 million are Hassan Mutembei and Company Advocates, Sagana Biriq Advocates, Muchemi and Company Advocates, Omiti and Bush Advocates LLP, Kang’ethe Mola and Company Advocates, Ng’etich, Chiira and Associates Advocates, and Samba and Odeck.
