Before appearing for any job interview this week, make sure you start doing some basic research on the company you are joining.
All interviews will ask questions on your career, the job description you intend to undertake and the company services. They are testing your knowledge and understanding of the what you plan to do. There is no space for doubt. When asked about the company interviewing you, kindly explain in a sentence what the company does and what you can improve. Showcase what you are bringing on the table. The company is testing you level of preparedness.
Your first task on the interview day is to be official. Arrive early and don’t enter the room and rush to take the seat. Great them not by shaking hands but verbal greetings and wave a little. That is enough! Wait to be invited on the seat and, when sited, wait for the next instruction. Do not be tempted to speak to anyone even when you know one in the room unless triggered to.
Presentation During the Interview
You also have to look into your presentation. Yes, you are a job seeker and poor but you can’t afford to walk inside the interviewing room with tattered a shirt and trouser. No company wants poverty with them, they believe wherever you have been you were using your school acquired knowledge to earn some living. Don’t walk with your poverty into the interview room. It puts off. No one wants to sympathize with you – take note and this cannot be overemphasized.
Even if your shirt is not good enough, make it clean and iron it properly so that this interviewing you can see the effort in how organized you can be given a small chance. Point of organization start with yourself not someone else.
Thirdly, prepare hypothetical description of yourself. Don’t answer questions so fast and so slowly. Have imaginary questions with you that you think will be asked and whenever you are asked, take few seconds to answer but, too, do not rush in opening your mouth to gain bonga points. Always analyse and conceptualize each fielded question before opening your mouth. Nothing puts off interviewing panel than a question wrongly answered because of trying to prove how clever you are. Reduce the rookie mistakes as much as you can.
Talking and Answering questions
You will also be required to talk less and listen more. Do not take your street behavior to the interviewing room. Be professional by listening a lot and talking less. Remember the rule of the thumb, ‘the more you talk the more mistakes you make’.
Lastly, when done with the interview, leave a word of appreciation like the two-worded ‘thank you’ or I ‘am delighted to meet you’. You can also add a rider that has been giving many job seekers an added advantage after an interview – confess and acknowledge having learnt something from the team – ‘I have learnt a lot from you today’ is a short appreciation sentence that all those who interviewed you will never forget during shortlisting exercise.
Good luck!
