Elections –The Chairperson of the Commonwealth Election observation group, Festus Mogae, has stepped down.
According to the Wednesday August 3 statemnet form he Commonwealth Secretariat, five days to the August 9 General Election, Mogae had left the mission due to unavoidable circumstances and in his place taken by former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding.
Bruce is going to lead the 20-member team currently camping in the country to oversee the elections process pitting Raila Odinga against William Ruto.
Also participating in the contest are Agano Party leader David Mwaure alongiside Prof George Wajakoyah of Roots Party.
The officials touched down in the country following an invitation from both the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC.
Mr. Mogae served as Botswana’s president between 1998 and 2008.
