Films –Facebook has awarded a Kenyan female content creator with a whopping sh 3 million for creating content on Bodaboda operators.
Under their programme dubbed Future Africa: Telling Stories, Building Worlds, six finalists from Africa included Kenya’s Michele Angawa.
She will be given the $30,000 which amount will help her go on with creating tragicomedy content surrounding a typical bodaboda day around Nairobi City.
A statement from Meta – a parent company of Facebook – stated that the programme is focused on harnessing and investing in the next generation of Extended Reality (XR) creators in African Continent.
All the successful creators listed will also be accorded targeted mentor-ship programmes and tickets to the XR events so as to increase their creativity skills on social media.
“As part of the ‘Future Africa: Telling Stories, Building Worlds’ programme, each creator will be supported with funding of up to $30,000 and also participate in XR-industry events to improve their creativity and drive interest in their projects. They will also access mentorship from Electric South and Imisi3D,” partly read the statement.
It was established that other five creators in the list came from Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria, Mauritius and Cameroon.
They are expected to incorporate the creative uses of music, multimedia installations, film and sculpture to explore projects around spirituality, heritage, the cosmos, imagination and memory and masculinity into their extended reality projects.
Arts and Culture Program Lead at ANF, Jessica Hagan, noted that the organization was happy with the abundance of talent on the African continent.
