Tech –Mega tech company Facebook Inc. has changed its name to Meta. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made the confirmation.
The Chief Executive Officer delivered the news on Thursday October 28 while at the company’s headquarters in Menlo Park California. He disclosed that the new brand name was informed by the fact that their venture was getting involved in many global products and Facebook as a name was tying their hands.
“Meta is helping to build the Metaverse, a place where we’ll play and connect in 3D. Welcome to the next chapter of social connection.
“Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future,” said Mark.
He further noted that they were looking ahead to have two different segments – one for their family apps while the other will concentrate on future platforms.
“I am proud to announce that starting today, our company is now Meta,” he added saying that, however, their existing apps (Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook) will have to retain their original brand names.
The company has also replaced the Like logo with a blue Infinity shape new logo which they will use to trade going forward.
