Tuesday, February 28, 2023 –Officials fetched from the Anti-counterfeit Authority ACA have seized goods valued at sh 50 Million from China Square mall, Nairobi.
This happened when a Kenyan businessman claimed ownership of Finder trademark and which the China Square has been using to brand their goods.
The Kenyan-based firm claimed to own the popular Finder domain name as well as being the only distributor of Finder products, locally.
Making a confirmation on the raid ACA regional manager, affirmed that the exercise was on and once completed, he will issue a comprehensive statement.
“We conducted a search in the place and investigations are still ongoing. They are quite merchandised products of different brands. We will be able to give a statement after we conclude our investigations,” Ibrahim Bule, ACA regional manager, affirmed.
On the other side, China Square’s legal team led by Lawyer Josephine Oyombe told media that they are cooperating maximally with the authorities as well as the Kenyan company so that to settle the matters at hand peacefully.
“You’ve seen the officers from ACA have come to the premises to check on the goods. They have done the inspection and currently, investigations are ongoing,” Josephine Oyombe, China Square’s advocate assured.
On February 26, China Square management announced an indefinite closure over what they described as misunderstanding from the local market.
