Events -Communication Authority CA has released an official statement on the disruption of their function in Kisumu today Wednesday March 15.
This happened during the Consumer Rights Day in the lakeside city of Kisumu Town when a group of raging youth stormed the hall and turned everything upside down.
Eyewitnesses recounted how the protesters damaged the Communication Authority CA properties and stole items of unknown value. They even hurled objects at Director General Ezra Chiloba’s official vehicle before he managed to flee to a safer place.
“It is unfortunate that this year’s World Consumer Rights Day event convened by the Communications Authority of Kenya and held at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Complex in Kisumu was disrupted following protests in and around the CBD,” partly read the statement.
These actions were described by the organizers as regrettable and which have to be condemned in the strongest terms possible.
“It is regrettable that a group of youth, ostensibly doing a demo in Kisumu, this morning disrupted an official function of the Communication Authority (CA), presided over by the CA Director General, Mr. Ezra Chiloba,” said ICT CS Eliud Owalo.
Before the interruption, the event had kicked off well with a roundtable discussion, which was focused on the theme “Empowering Consumers through better Quality of Service and Experience”.
The first session was safely completed and was broadcast live on a local TV station.
