Scoop -Top Kenyan billionaires are locked in a business battle over the Kenya Defense Force KDF lucrative tender.
Chris Kirubi and Nausad Merali companies are jostling for the multibillion shilling deal to build the 11,000 houses for the men in uniform.
As reported in the Business Daily paper, the Ministry of Defense has H. Young East Africa which is associated with Merali and Chris Kirubi’s consortium of three entities Zutari Kenya, Blink Studio and NorthWind Consulting. Kirubi is operating under his Centum Real Estate.
According to reports from the insiders, the houses will be spread across the country in different army barracks.
Others also jostling for the tender are China’s Gezhouba Group company Limited, China Railways Construction Engineering Group, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and China Railways Engineering Group Company Limited.
“The military has targeted 2,340 residential units in phase one of the project with the Nanyuki base taking the biggest chunk at 737 houses on 300 acres of land, followed by 610 units at the Kenyatta Barrack in Gilgil. Roysambu military base along the Nairobi-Thika highway will have 500 units on 15 acres of land and 125 houses will be constructed at the Lanet military base,” the reported read in part.
Kirubi and Merali are some of the few billionaires in the country who have been bagging State tenders due to their deep pockets, influence and ability to fund such huge projects before being paid.
