Salaries –President William Ruto is expected to announce the list of Chief Administrative Secretaries CASs following court’s ruling today.
In her Thursday February 16 ruling, Justice Monica Mbaru sitting in Nairobi, allowed the head of State to name and appoint Chief Administrative Secretaries CASs in his government.
The throwing away of the petition filed by the Law Society of Kenya LSK, today shifted focus to the likely names on the list of CASs.
“A Chief Administrative Secretary will serve on contract as determined by the appointing Authority. This position is graded at CSG 3 in the Public Service – the remuneration and benefits commensurate to this level will be applicable,” Public Service Commission announced.
Data shows that a CAS will take home atleast sh 874,500 every month hence costing the tax payers’ a whopping sh 486.4 million in salaries alone to keep twenty-two CASs on salary.
“Following the establishment of the Office of the Chief Administrative Secretary by the President under Article 132(4) (a) of the Constitution as read with Section 30 of the Public Service Commission Act, 2017, the Public Service Commission hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons who wish to be considered for appointment,” PSC chairman Anthony Muchiri said.
Currently, data shows that Cabinet Secretaries carry home around sh 924,000 down from sh1.056 million, while their Permanent Secretaries PSs take home a monthly salary of sh 765,000.
