Should he be elected, Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga has promised to pile pressure on African countries to silence guns by year 2035.
Addressing in a live debate today Friday Dec 13, the AUC top candidate said a priority would be given to this matter because this was supposed to have happened by 2020 according to AU resolutions of 2013.
“Silencing the guns on the continent is something which heads of States, in 2013, met and passed a resolution but today is 2024 and the guns are still laud, Mr. Odinga observed.
He noted that there is urgent need to address the root factors like poverty, conflict within the society arising from ethnicity and some of them are externally promoted while some remain religious.
“What I will do myself is that I will be considering that not all countries are equal in governance and, therefore, each country’s problems will be addressed in a unique way and dialogue will be necessary,” he added.
The Kenya’s opposition leader remarked that the current Africa representation in the United Nations Security Council is also crucial arguing that a Continent with a population capacity of 2.4B people must be fully represented by atleast two persons in the UN.
