Transport –Cabinet Secretary CS Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday raided National Transport and Safety Authority NTSA offices in Nairobi for fresh orders on digital Number plates.
In his statement from the NTSA headquarters, the CS established that there were unnecessary bureaucratic processes and red tapes causing delays in dispatching the number plates to applicants.
On interacting with victims, among them Maurice, of delayed services, the CS found out that, despite them getting notifications to pick up their plates, they have not be delivered.
“While at NTSA Headquarters in Upper Hill this afternoon, I spoke to Maurice, a customer based in Mombasa, who has been waiting for his digital number plate for a while now. Despite the number plate being ready for collection and a notification sent to him from NTSA – Nairobi confirming the same, unnecessary bureaucratic processes and red tapes have led to delays in dispatching the number plate,” he stated.
Murkomen seized the opportunity to instruct NTSA officials to expedite service delivery to all applicants and to clear any backlog.
“I have instructed officials at NTSA – Nairobi to fast-track the delivery process and ensure Maurice receives his digital number plate by Monday next week. This principle should apply to all our customers,” he ordered.
His Saturday impromptu visit also saw him probe officials at the headquarters for delaying services most of who appeared to struggle with explanation.
He, therefore, ordered that all processed digital Number Plates be issued starting Monday the following week.
He also promised to wipe out any unnecessary reasons that have been leading to the delays at the NTSA and also said the backlog must be cleared within the next two weeks starting Monday.
“I have given NTSA two weeks to clear this backlog, notify Kenyans of their nearest collection points, and put in place the necessary mechanisms to speed up the turnaround time for processing and issuance of DLs and digital number plates,” CS Murkomen directed.
Additionally, the remaining logbooks that were yet to be processed will also be cleared within the two-week time-frame.
