New Job –Sports and Culture Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has been appointed to the United Nations position.
In the latest update seen on Wednesday September 20, Mr. Namwamba will be part of the UN Global Leadership Council of Generation Unlimited (GenU).
The CS will be attending his maiden meeting in New York USA from September 21st during the 78th UN General Assembly.
Making this confirmation today Wednesday September 20, Kenya’s National Youth Council (NYC) said the CS will be on the trip for the event.
“The Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports Congratulates the appointment by His Excellency President Dr. William Ruto, CGH to the Global Leadership Council of Generation Unlimited, the premier United Nations platform for advancing the agenda of young people globally,” NYC’s post read in parts.
He, therefore, joins a handpicked team of leaders from all over the world, in GenU’s Council including UNICEF’s Executive Director, Catherine M. Russell, Rwanda’s Youth Minister, Dr Abdallah Utumatwishima, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Audrey Azoulay, and the Vice President of the Agriculture, Human and Social Development Complex at the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Beth Dunford among others.
Among other aspects, the organization champions connectivity, employment, entrepreneurship and social impact among the youth.
Ababu is a renowned Kenyan politician who served as Budalang’i Member of Parliament before moving to become a Chief Cabinet Secretary CAS in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during Uhuru Kenyatta’s time.
He would also later be appointed by President William Ruto as Cabinet Secretary Sports and Culture; a position he serves to date.
