Salaries –President William Ruto today passed good news to junior civil servant s as he approved salary increment for them.
Addressing during the launch of Gava Mkononi digital programme today Friday June 30, the head of State announced that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission SRC’s proposals to increase salaries was a good idea for junior governmnet officials.
He listed junior civil servants upto those serving in the office of principal secretaries.
“I know there is a proposal by SRC for the increase of salaries of different cadres of both civil servants and other public servants. Because of the economic times we live in, we have approved that salaries of other civil servants can be adjusted beginning tomorrow.
“Policemen, teachers, other state official upto PSs your salary will be adjusted from between 7 – 10 percent from tomorrow,” President Ruto announced.
The President, however, rejected increment of his own salary, deputy president and his Cabinet team saying his intention is to reduce the gap between the poor and the rich in the country.
“Myself, my deputy, ministers, PSs na wale wadosi wengine wa bunge, sisi mambo yetu tungojee. Hiyo mshahara itakwama hapo. I have instructed the SRC to give us international best practice because we need to reduce the gap between all of us who work for the people of Kenya. We need to make sure that the gap between the person paid the least and the person paid the most is not too big,” he clarified.
Ruto also seized the opportunity to take a sharp swipe at Uhuru Kenyatta’s government for reportedly defrauding Kenyans through a dubious sh 15 billion Huduma Namba initiative.
“In the next 90 days, we must have a Digital ID. Huduma Number was a complete fraud because we lost almost 15 billion shillings and got very little out of it. It is possible for us to have a Digital ID without spending 15 billion and without defrauding the people of Kenya. Those who did that should be ashamed of themselves,” he added.
President Ruto then assured that, in the next 30 days, no government service will be paid for in cash to reduce pilferage.
