Payments –Safaricom users will, from this week, start using their PIN to purchase data bundles via USSD codes such as *444# and *544#.
The giant telco has made these changes in the process of paying for data bundles through M-Pesa Mobile money.
In its official statement made today Monday August 29, Safaricom updated that starting 30/08/22, clients will use their MPESA PIN instead of the Service PIN to buy Neo bundle with no expiry.
The service provider further explained the Service PIN as the PIN usually used to access other services such as purchase of data bundles via M-Pesa or USSD platforms for SACCOS and fintechs or when using data to redeem a prize from any Safaricom shop.
While buying bundles directly from M-Pesa, a prompt requires customers, through common USSD codes, to enter their Service PIN and not the M-Pesa Pin.
The service PIN has been in usage since the inception of the Safaricom-Mpesa services in the market.
