Tech –Billionaire Elon Musk has asked his critics to remain on Twitter even as he buys it with a whopping $ 44bn or Sterling pounds 34.5bn.
Speaking on the multibillion deal with the owners, the tycoon promised to make the platform even attractive to those who may not be his friends.
“I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means,” he wrote on Twitter.
Remarking on the historical purchase, the billionaire noted that he believes in free speech and he will be more than willing to make this even freer than before. He also added that Twitter as a leading social media platform has enormous and tremendous potential which he would work to unlock as soon as possible.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Mr Musk said in a statement announcing the deal.
“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans,” he added.
“Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it,” he stated.
Though it has been a long push and pull between the owners and the billionaire, shareholders have been urged to vote so as to approve the sellout.
So far, according to Forbes Magazine, Mr. Musk remains the world’s richest man with a net worth estimated at $273.6bn. Apart from owning electric vehicle dubbed Tesla, he also leads the aerospace firm SpaceX.
