Blogs –To avoid being disconnected from your mobile communication, the Communication Authority of Kenya CAK has extended the SIM update period to April 15.
Everybody must be legally connected before 15 and this directive has seen hundreds of SIM Card owners flock dealers shops to update their particulars.
The drive is meant to weed out fake SIM cards which had been issued to the public through unscrupulous agents minting millions from unsuspecting clients.
For Safaricom users, the process only requires you to visit any agent shop near you and you will be assisted in only 3 minutes. There is not yet a clear online procedure for this.
Airtel Kenya and Telkom users can easily complete this exercise at the comfort of their homes or by visiting respective shops for assistance.
For Airtel users, follow the following steps to get started.
- Go to this registration portal.
- Enter your Airtel Kenya number. You will receive an OTP that will then verify it.
- Enter your ID number.
- Upload the front side of your national ID.
- Enter the backside of your national ID.
- Hit SUBMIT, and that is it.
And for Telcom Users, you will need to follow the following steps.
- Go to this registration portal.
- Enter your Telkom Kenya number.
- Enter your ID number.
- Upload the front side of your national ID.
- Enter the backside of your national ID.
- Hit SUBMIT, and that is it.
According to CAK, Kenyans who will not have registered their SIM cards by April 15 will be forced to pay sh 300,000 in fines or could be thrown in jail for six months. This is according to CA Director General Ezra Chiloba.
It has also been announced that all SIM Cards inaccurately registered will also be targeted in the countrywide cleanup exercise.
Kenyans living overseas like Saudi Arabia will have to wait for clear instructions from Safaricom Telco.
