Fraud –Embattled Football Kenya Federation FKF President Nick Mwendwa has tendered his resignation from office.
A letter he addressed to the National Executive Committee NEC on Tuesday November 30, said it is in the best interest of the country and sports that he had decided to quit.
“In light of the foregoing, specifically, the frequent arrests and detentions, which have adversely affected my family and personal business and whilst I am confident I will be cleared of any wrongdoing in the end, I have today in accordance with Article 42(8) of the FKF constitution (2017)asked my Vice President Madam Doris Petra to assume all functions of the FKF preside,” partly stated the resignation letter.
He also claimed that the fight between the State and his office had become too personal and therefore need to pave way.
“Taking into consideration that I am personally being targeted in all this, my decision, has been arrived at with the federation’s best interest at heart,” he added.
His resignation means that his vice Doris Petra will be taking over the roles with immediate effect from the day he has resigned.
Mr. Mwendwa is charged in sh 38 million fraud – a case he has pleaded not guilty before Principal Magistrate Eunice Nyutu who granted him sh 10 million bail or bond of sh 15 million with sureties of similar amount.
This happened when he had on Tuesday November 30 morning lost bid to block his prosecution that has also left him at a tight corner. He will not be required to step his foot in FKF Kandanda headquarters and neither should he be found interfering with witnesses.
The case was set for mentioning on December 20.
