Market -Huge fire which started at midnight has destroyed goods of unknown value at Nairobi’s’ Gikomba Market.
According to Homenews.co.ke, the inferno gutted down all the stalls along Molo Line area mostly called Ghorofani, and in the process, cloth stores were reduced to ashes as owners looked helplessly from distance.
The publication further reported how most of those affected were left calling for help for hours. This led to the owners spending their night out in the cold.
When the Nairobi fire engines arrived from the Fire Department, it was too late and little could only be salvaged.
This is not the first time the mysterious fire is burning down the market, Kigomba has had its share of destruction almost every year especially when moving close to elections. Victims who trade there have linked this to city politics.
In June 2020, another early morning fire left traders at the same market counting losses after it razed down their properties.
In the process, several structures at the Cereals and mitumba sections at the market were reduced to mere ashes.
Statistically, Gikomba is among the biggest Central Business District CBD markets in Nairobi Town and any attack on the market leaves the entire Nairobi City economically shaken.
