Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has promised to withdraw the controversial Boda boda Bill he had tabled with the Senate.
Addressing the matter from Kakamega Town, on Monday, the politician accused a section of leaders and stakeholders of misleading the riders on his well-intended Bill which, he said, was aimed at addressing the challenges millions of bodaboda operators face on the roads.
“I had a plan to have a Bill ll to protect bodaboda users on our roads especially when an accident occurs affecting the riders and by extension their passengers. There was a lot in the Bill as far as workmanship in the bodaboda industry is concerned,” stated Dr. Khalwale.
He has, however, said those who have incited the riders against the Bill now have a chance to explain better what they want as the Bill will be withdrawn officially from Tuesday.
“Tomorrow I am returning to the Senate and I will be writing to the clerks in both Houses – the Senate and the National Assembly – to withdraw it officially just like the Finance Bill was also withdrawn after being rejected by the people”.
The lawmaker argued that, time will come when the Bill will make make sense but for now there is no need to cause unnecessary friction.
