A beautiful graduate from Kenyatta University who, seven years ago, graduated in Information Science course with a First Class Honors has taken to a popular Facebook group with an emotional job searching story.
Joan born in Siaya was a very clever girl in school. She was among the top students in class all through. She joined Kenyatta University and did quite well too. However, after graduation, she couldn’t secure a good job. The best she could afford was to become a petrol station attendant.
“I have been stressed a lot. After my parents sold everything at home to take me to college, it is now seven years I have never secured any professional job. That’s how worse this country can be,” she wrote on Facebook.
As a petrol station attendant, Joan Atieno Anyango has been earning Ksh 12,000 every month with no off days. She is not alone, Boaz, a fellow graduate from University of Nairobi UoN is also a victim of poor job market in Kenya. He has been moving from one job to another in the Mjengo industry. He is a Medical student graduate.
“I really hate this country. I feel I am highly wasted. This is my eighth year jobless. I have a family of two sons and are all in school. What kind of life is this?” he posted on X.
These are not the only cases in Kenya. Obviously, politics has really messed up the country. Leaders go into power to enrich themselves. They can promise young men and women great things but once they are elected, they turn into something else. They become Kasongo – lies after lies in the name of promises.
Well, luckily, those graduates who have been left wallowing in poverty like Joan(26) and Boaz(32) couldn’t give up with life. They pushed on with their job searching quest so that one day they can also live well and change their families.
