Tech –Word’s richest man Elon Musk has expressed his excitement following a statement from Kenyan President William Ruto on Starlink services in Kenya.
Musk, today Tuesday September 24, tagged President William Ruto’s statement on the arrival of Starlink internet in Kenya and the healthy competition it has brought with it.
“As the President of Kenya says, Starlink causes local competitors to provides better services,” Mr. Musk stated.
Kenyan President William Ruto, in the U.S., explained on Tuesday, how Elon Musk’s Star link has created viable competition in Kenya, causing existing players to provide better services to its customers.
Ruto, who was speaking during US-Kenya Investment Round-table meeting, revealed that local company owners are not happy with his decision to allow foreign competitors into the local market.
He pointed out how Safaricom ownership has been on his neck ever since Starlink internet rolled out its services in in the country.
“I have my CEO for Safaricom – Sometimes he’s not very happy with me for bringing other characters like Elon Musk and others into the space. I keep encouraging Peter that competition makes you keep ahead and he’s been doing pretty well, I must admit, he’s really upped his game,” said Ruto during the US-Kenya Business and Investment Roundtable in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Starlink was introduced in Kenya a few months ago and has been received well locally with its client base swelling by day.
Reason Kenyans have cited are among others, exploitation from local companies that have been overcharging internet services because of man years of monopoly.
