Scoop -Ex-Safaricom Chief Executive officer Michael Joseph was rewarded a whopping sh 127.5 million bonus pay from Safaricom for the financial year ended March 2021.
According to Bizna.com, this pay which came after his resignation makes him the highest paid board member in the history of the country.
Joseph took over on an acting capacity after the demise pf their long serving CEO Bob Collymore who succumbed to Cancer. He would later relinquish that role in early 2020 for the current CEO Peter Ndegwa.
Sources have also reported that besides sh 127.5 million, Safaricom PLC also gave him another sh 6.3 million for his role as chairman and non-executive director.
Joseph has therefore pocketed a staggering sh 133.8 million in total. Records shows that the giant Telco company pays its chairman sh 5.7 million per annum and a sitting allowance of sh 85,000 per meeting. Further, non-executive officer are entitled to sh 2.2 million each per annum with a sitting allowance of sh 60,000 per meeting. On the other hand, anyone chairing a board committee takes away sh 74,150 per session.
