The Kenyan Government, in partnership with the United Kingdom, has announced an open call for 10,000 Community Digital Champions as part of the “Strengthening Digital Communities” project.
The programme will be rolled out through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports – State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, ICT Authority of Kenya, in collaboration with the county governments of Busia and Mandera, and KICTANet.
The “Strengthening Digital Communities” project seeks to bridge the digital divide by empowering local populations with essential digital skills.
By recruiting and training 10,000 Community Digital Champions, the program aims to expand digital literacy and support the Government of Kenya’s vision of training 20 million citizens by 2032. These champions will play a key role in cascading the ICT Authority’s foundational digital skills curriculum to community members, ensuring that citizens gain vital digital literacy to engage in Kenya’s rapidly growing digital economy.
Roles and responsibilities of community champions
As a Community Digital Champion, selected individuals will be responsible for delivering high-quality digital skills training to their communities, with a focus on foundational ICT skills. The role involves: Delivering in-person training sessions to community members based on the ICT Authority’s curriculum. Supporting trainees with ongoing mentorship, ensuring they have the knowledge and tools to thrive in a digital environment. Tracking the progress of training sessions and submitting regular updates and feedback to project management for assessment.
Qualifications and requirements for KICTANet jobs
To apply for the position of Community Digital Champion, candidates must meet the following criteria: A Diploma or Degree from a recognized institution. Candidates with an ICT certificate will have an added advantage. A commitment to dedicating time to attend training sessions. Ability to train at least 100 community members, primarily through face-to-face sessions. Access to stable internet and a digital device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop). Proficiency in English, Kiswahili, and local dialects relevant to their region.
